[10gigs] [10GHz-Up] [10ghzcontest] W0AUS beacon report

A lot of the modern “green building” techniques use metallized glass to reflect sunlight and UV. They are extremely effective RF attenuators. Tons of fun trying to demo VHF equipment in a conference room.

> Chris, I found your report most interesting and valuable. When you mentioned a very strong signal all but disappearing when looking through a modern glass sliding door that was a bit of a shock ! I suspect the glass has coatings for reflecting uV radiation and this also may be affecting uW signals. Thanks !

I was pointing generally in his direction looking out over the balcony with the dish/tripod just inside the apartment.

Perhaps the attenuation is less significant under those circumstances? Possibly worth further experimentation.
>>
>> We live in a modern "green” which definitely absorbs and then retains solar heat. It requires little intentional heating even in winter. I have no idea what brand or type of glass is used in the building.
